LibraryThing, a tool I have come to love, is now free for all!

I love everything about books. I learned about LibraryThing a while ago, and while I have forgotten more about the books I have read than I can remember, I have slowly started cataloging books on the site. And since they had a limit of 200 books for free membership, I was happy to pay $20 or $25 for lifetime membership. It was definitely affordable for me, but I know a lot of people would not be able to afford that amount.

Sites like LibraryThing are pretty cool and offer a rare counter to commercial company sites, whose main goals are advertisement or sales.

For me, this came as a boon. Given my limited availability, I wanted a simple site that I could use easily.

So, when I went to add “Path of the Dead” part of a listen for free audiobook deal from audiobooks.com, I learned that as of March 18, 2020, the LibraryThing folks have removed ads and limits to books, and the membership tiers. They have a blog post about it that I am linking below.

LibraryThing is a very powerful and useful site for book lovers. I hope you will give it a try, especially now during the pandemic, if you have time and wish to catalog the books you have read and are reading!
