Celebrating World Book Day in the Pandemic

April 23rd is World Book Day (not to be confused with Book Lover’s Day), something that UNESCO did after an event was held to celebrate Miguel De Cervantes of the Don Quixote fame (link below). Of course, any excuse would do for me, to buy books, and many times none is needed at all! However, I like the idea of setting aside a day to think about books and the knowledge and joy they bring, especially at a time when so little of either is on display.

Given our ongoing pandemic, instead of haunting a bookstore or two, as I am usually pressed to do, I went to Biblio.co.uk, a favorite online store of mine and ordered some cheap, used books (Earth Day precedes World Book Day by a day – boy, way to make two days sound like a lot of days) to maintain a modicum of sustainability, as I shuddered at the thoughts of the Carbon Footprint of books being slow-boated from all over.

However, I hope my meager expenditure does something to benefit the small bookstores that I supported through my purchase. I bought a book on India’s Natural History and two on California’s Natural History, combining my love for books and two of my favoirte places! It will also be a nice birthday gift for yours truly, as that is also this month!

I am reading a book on the PiƱon Pine, and I hope to continue reading it tomorrow. What do you plan to do tomorrow?
